I came home exhausted waiting for a quiet night, but something was not right...

The bed was still perfectly laid out, but the closet was open and several drawers had been checked.

I immediately thought of a robbery.

I took out the phone to call my wife, but at that moment I heard a noise coming from the basement.

My heart began to beat strongly.

I took a flashlight that was in the hallway and slowly went down.

Every step creaked under my feet.

When I got downstairs, I saw a small cardboard box on a table. Above there was an envelope with my name handwritten.

I opened it nervously.

There was only one sentence inside:

“Before drawing conclusions... open the door to the bottom.”

I took a deep breath.

The bottom door normally remained closed because it was an old storage room.

I slowly turned the knob.

When I opened it...

The lights suddenly turned on.

“Surprise!”

My whole family showed up laughing.

They had decorated the room with balloons, photographs of different moments of my life and a huge table full of food.

My closest friends began to come out of their hiding places while applauding.

My wife came up smiling.

“You thought something bad had happened, right?”

I couldn't help laughing.

I almost called the police.

She hugged me.

We know that. That's why we left the note before you panicked.

That day I had completely forgotten that it was our wedding anniversary and also the 50th birthday that I had been saying that I did not want to celebrate.

My children had prepared a video with photographs of our entire lives together.

My parents, siblings and several friends recorded messages that appeared on a makeshift screen.

I cried more than once during the night.

In the end I understood that this strange silence, the ajar door and the photograph on the ground had only been part of a small plan to surprise me.

That night I came home waiting to rest for a few hours.

Instead, I ended up living one of the happiest memories of my life.

Sometimes, the situations that seem to worry us at first end up becoming unforgettable moments that remain forever in our memory.
